Pebblework scatters clustered knots across the ground like stones along a riverbed.

It is irregular by design — no two clusters alike — so light never falls the same way twice across the surface. The difficulty is in the disorder: the randomness must feel natural, never contrived, which is far harder than working to a grid.

It gives a motif the quiet life of something found in nature.

Read as museum plates — the stitch at the scale of the hand that made it.

Plate i — Thread Direction & Density

Small, rounded knots are set close together in no single direction, clustering the way pebbles settle on a riverbed.

Plate ii — Surface, Layering & Light

The irregular clustering catches light unevenly across the surface, giving the fill a tactile, almost three-dimensional texture.
